Lake Minnewanka, the largest lake in Banff National Park, offers a variety of boat rental options for visitors looking to explore its pristine waters at their own pace. Whether you're interested in a leisurely paddle or a fishing adventure, the lake's rental services cater to diverse preferences.

Motorized Boats

Lake Minnewanka is unique within the park as it's the only lake that permits motorized boating. Visitors can rent 16-foot aluminum motorboats equipped with 8 or 9.9 horsepower outboard motors. These boats are ideal for fishing or simply cruising the lake's expansive waters. Rental rates start at approximately CA$155 for the first hour, with additional hours costing around CA$77.50. Half-day rentals (4 hours) are available on weekdays for about CA$360 . Each rental includes necessary safety equipment and fuel.

Canoes and Kayaks

For those preferring a more tranquil experience, canoes and kayaks are available for rent. Single kayaks start at CA$47 for the first hour, while double kayaks and canoes are priced at CA$87 for the first hour . These vessels offer an intimate way to explore the lake's shoreline and enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery. All rentals come with life jackets and paddles.

Rental Information

Boat rentals operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and it's advisable to arrive early, especially during peak summer months. The rental season typically runs from early May to mid-October, weather permitting . A credit card is required for all rentals, and renters must be at least 18 years old. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Safety and Regulations

Given Lake Minnewanka's glacial origins, the water remains cold throughout the year, making swimming hazardous. All boaters are required to wear personal flotation devices (PFDs), and it's essential to be aware of sudden weather changes that can lead to strong winds and waves. Additionally, to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species, all watercraft and related equipment must be cleaned, drained, dried, and certified before use in the park.

Lake Minnewanka's boat rental services provide an excellent opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Banff National Park from the water.
